Doris Carolyn (Rine) Sholly was born on her grandparents’ old homestead near Wray, Colorado on May 18, 1939 to Marion and Nellie (Huffman) Rine.
She attended a 1 room school for elementary school at Ashland near Otis, Colorado. She attended Otis High School, graduating in 1958.
Her college years were spent at Bible Missionary Institute in Rock Island, Illinois. After graduation from BMI, she ministered at the Navajo Reservation in Farmington, NM.
Doris married David Sholly in 1974. They ministered at a number of churches, including Stafford, KS, Providence, RI, and Amarillo, TX.
In 2008, Doris and David moved to Independence, KS to be near her step-daughter, Devona Moore.
She enjoyed writing and published a small book about Jesus’ boyhood days.
She was active in an author’s club, crocheting /knitting group, Penn Terrace Organization, and church ministry including ministering several years in Fredonia, KS.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David Sholly, her parents, Marion and Nellie Rine, brothers, LeRoy Rine and Ted Rine, step-daughter, Aimee Garrett and step-granddaughter, Rachelle Moore.
Surviving her are her sisters Laura (Rine) Harding and Joy (Rine) Young, her brother Dale Rine, nieces, nephews, Step-daughter Devona (Don) Moore, Step-son, John (Carolyn) Sholly and step-grandchildren Nikki (Nathan) McCasland, Roxana Naudeau, Sheryl (Kelly) Denison, Kara (Michael) Olson, Misty (Jesse) Breedlove, Beth (Buddy) Lamb, Mary (Kevin) Molander, Ben (Claire) Sholly, Sam Sholly. Also surviving are 14 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
A celebration of life service is planned to take place at the
Wesleyan Holiness Alliance Church
