Doris F. Robinson, age 92, of Bella Vista, Arkansas, passed from this life on Monday, July 14, 2014 at The Cottages, Tulsa, Oklahoma. The family relates death occurred from natural causes after a long and happy life.
Doris Fern DeMoss was born September 2, 1921, in Moline, Kansas, the fifth of six children born to Ernest Bud DeMoss and Alta Robinson DeMoss.
Doris grew up in the Moline area. She attended country schools until she reached high school and then attended Moline High School. It was there that Leroy Robinson first caught her eye. After high school she attended beauty school in Coffeyville. With the outbreak of World War II she moved to Wichita and worked two jobs. During the day she styled and cut hair and then worked the evening shift at Boeing. Throughout the war she corresponded with Leroy who was in the Army in Europe. Once Leroy returned from Europe, they became an exclusive couple and married not too long after. Doris and Leroy were inseparable as a couple.
They began working oil leases around the Sedan area soon after they were married. Their son, Ed, was born in 1950. Not too many years after Eds birth, they moved to Winfield where both of them were employed by the Sonner Burner Company. They eventually got jobs with Phillips Petroleum and moved to Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Although they didnt work in the same departments, they often met for lunch. Occasionally they would pack a lunch in the morning and enjoy a picnic in the park during their lunch break.
Ed is a musician and has played in bands since his high school days in Bartlesville. Doris and Leroy would occasionally venture out to one of his bands gigs. Eds friends were amazed at his parents jitterbug moves.
They didnt just enjoy each others company during the work week. Weekends would find them pursuing one of their hobbies. At first, it was fishing but eventually golf came to be their hobby of choice. They enjoyed nothing more than playing golf together. Although they loved their golfing weekends, they always found time to spend with family. Nothing thrilled their nieces and nephews more than spending time with them.
After they retired from Phillips they moved to Hot Springs, Arkansas where they had a house on the golf course. Deciding that the house in Hot Springs was not really suitable for living full time, they moved to Bentonville, Arkansas. They spent the remainder of their years together in Bentonville, gardening and playing golf.
After Leroys death in 1992, Doris moved to Bella Vista where she and her sister, Evelyn were next door neighbors. This became a gathering place for their extended family for holidays and family reunions. They even took in their Louisiana family for nearly a month after Hurricane Katrina. Doris and Evelyn gathered up their sister, Irene, and took trips to visit family in Ohio and Idaho. These 3 sisters at the ages of 88, 86, and 85 drove to New Orleans for the wedding of their great niece.
Eventually, Doriss health declined and she was in need of every day assistance. She then moved to Grove, Oklahoma, to be near her niece, Linda Swindler.
Doris will be remembered for her love for Leroy and Ed and her family. She will also be remembered for her love of life and golf.
Doris Robinson is survived by her only child, Ed Robinson of Tulsa three sisters, Irene Helton, Caney, KS, Evelyn Eales, Bella Vista, AR, and Jean Kiser, Bellflower, CA many nieces, nephews, and a host of lifelong friends.
