Doris Mccollam

Doris Marguerite McCollam, age 83, of Independence, Kansas died Monday, July 31, 2017 at her home in Independence, Kansas.

Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, August 4, 2017 at Potts Chapel. Burial will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel.

Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, August 3, 2017 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the Potts Chapel. Friends may leave online condolences at www.pottsfuneralhome.com

The family has suggested memorials to SKIL or AWOL and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel.

Doris Marguerite McCollam was born June 21, 1934 in Independence, Kansas to Otis and Lora (Stewart) Degarimore. She grew up in Independence, Kansas and graduated from the Independence High School in 1952. Doris did secretarial work for CIT in Independence, Kansas.

On August 31, 1957 Doris married Vernon McCollam in Fredonia, Kansas. Vernon was in the Navy so the couple made their home in Illinois, California, Washington before returning to Independence, Kansas. Vernon preceded her in death in 2010. Doris loved collecting Teddy Bears and crafting.

Survivors include two sons Gregory McCollam and wife Jynell of Independence, Patrick McCollam and wife Jill of Greenwood, Indiana; two daughters Diana Poliquin and husband Mike of Atchison, Kansas and Lori Houghton and husband Brian of Coffeyville, Kansas; 12 grandchildren and several great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Vernon, one son Donald and her beloved German Shepard Tex.
