Doris J. Martin, age 84, of Independence, Kansas died Sunday, June 20, 2010 at the Mercy Hospital in Independence, Kansas. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 25, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church with the Reverends Jack Marilyn Gregory officiating. Burial will follow at the Mount Hope Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, June 24, 2010 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials to the Jubilation Ringers of the First United Methodist Church and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Doris was born October 17, 1925 in Independence, Kansas to Forest and Edith Olson Featherngil. She grew up in Independence, Kansas and graduated from Independence High School as Salutatorian in 1943. Doris also attended Independence Community College. On January 20, 1945 Doris married Roy D. Martin in Independence, Kansas where they made their home. Doris worked as a secretary at Union Gas, was a member of the Goodies Unlimited Catering for 10 years and was a homemaker on the farm. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the circle club, the jubilation ringers and taught Sunday school for many years. She was also a 4H member. Survivors include one son Dr. W. Jack Martin and wife Lori of Independence, Kansas two daughters Collette Reichenberger and husband Frank of Independence, Kansas and Janie Hunt and husband Ezra of Frisco, Texas two sisters Katherine Thiessen and husband Dan of Independence, Kansas and Lois Holst and husband Pete of Seattle, Washington eight grandchildren Heather Lee and husband Jared of Frisco, Texas, Brian Hunt and wife Tammy of Frisco, Texas, Matthew Hunt and wife Aleica of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Marty Reichenberger and wife Amy of Independence, Kansas, Chad Reichenberger and wife Jennifer of Independence, Kansas, Ti Martin of Wichita, Kansas, Casey McNeill and husband Joel of Independence, Kansas and Chance Martin of Independence, Kansas and 14 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother Dean Featherngil.
