Doris Gertrude Bustos, age 89, of Independence, Kansas died Friday, November 11, 2011 at the Mercy Hospital in Independence, Kansas. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 18, 2011 at the Zion Lutheran Church with the Reverend Fred Naumann officiating. Burial will follow in the Lutheran Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Visitation hours will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, November 17, 2011 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials to the Zion Lutheran Church and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Doris Gertrude Bustos was born February 11, 1922 in Independence, Kansas to William H. and Alma Gertrude Fitz Mueller. She grew up in Independence, Kansas and graduated from the Independence High School. On April 7, 1945 Doris married Pedro Phillip Bustos in Fredonia, Kansas the couple made their home in Independence, Kansas. Pedro preceded her in death on October 14, 2005. Doris worked at the Parsons Ammunition Plant, Badens, Wiggins Candy Company, Electra, Edminstons, and Ganzels Jewelry Store before going to work at ACC where she retired in 1999. Doris was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church in Independence, Kansas. Survivors include two daughters Cherryl Carter and husband Norman, and Julia Muller both of Independence, Kansas one brother Edmund Mueller of Columbus, Nebraska 3 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
