Donna LaVerne Cooley

Donna LaVerne Cooley, born July 24, 1931, in Neodesha, Kansas to the late Roy and Gertrude Willard, passed away peacefully on June 18, 2023, in Independence, Kansas.

On August 20, 1950, LaVerne married the love of her life Robert “Bob” Cooley, and the two made their home in Independence.

LaVerne was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was a devoted Christian and Sunday School Teacher at Grace Memorial United Methodist Church.

LaVerne was a kind and gentle soul who was always willing to lend a helping hand. She was an avid reader and enjoyed word puzzles. She loved to sing with her twin sister LaVonne and was an active member of the church choir.

LaVerne was a devoted wife to Bob and a loving mother to her daughter Cindy. She was a proud grandmother to Cassidy Coles and Jacob (Lesley) Coles and great grandmother to Poppy and Felix McGuire.

LaVerne was a beautiful soul who will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Susan Cooley-Nance, twin sister LaVonne Altendorf, along with 8 other siblings.

Graveside services will be held on June 30, 2023, at 1:00 PM at Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence.
