Donald White

Donald Duane White, 92 passed away at Autumn home Care Facilities in Columbus, Kansas on Monday, May 8, 2023.

Donald was born on April 24, 1931, in rural Montgomery County, Kansas to William “Chubb” White and Mary (Hanlin) White. Don attended school in LeHunt, Kansas and then at the age of 17 entered the United States Air Force. While in the Air Force, Don served as a member of the Military Police force and was a sharpshooter in the Korean War. In September of 1952 Don was honorably discharged and returned home and on December 24, 1953, he married Mary Williams in Independence. Don owned and operated White Stables for 60 plus years.

Don is preceded in death by his wife, Mary White, parents, William and Mary White, brothers, Bob and David White and sister Mary June Hull.

Don’s memory will carry on with his children, Rick and wife Kelli White of Ramona, OK, and Debi and husband Jay Bruening of Independence, KS, brothers, Damon White of Fredonia, KS, and Ramon White of Tyro, KS, sister, Beverly Hight of Independence, KS, grandchildren, Trevor and wife Miranda Bruening, and Casey and husband Corey Elam, and 4 great grandchildren.

The family will hold a Celebration of Don’s life at the Jay Bruening home, 2950 CR 3800, Independence, Kansas on Friday, May 12^th at 2:00 pm to 4:00pm. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be made in Don’s name to the VFW Post 1186 in Independence.
