Donald G. Scott, of Independence, passed away Sunday at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00pm Thursday at Potts Chapel in Independence. Burial will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery.
Friends may call from noon to 8pm Wednesday at Potts Chapel in Independence with family receiving visitors from 6pm to 7pm. Memorials are suggested to American Cancer Society and Willing Hearts and Helping Hands.
Mr. Scott was born July 6, 1935 in Centerville, Kansas the son of Lee and Esther Henderson Scott.
He graduated from Blue Mound Rural High School in 1953.
He married Joan Townsley on October 1, 1953 in Independence Kansas. They have lived in Independence during their 60 years of marriage.
Mr. Scott was a handy man at heart. He loved the outdoors and also raising Shetland ponies which he entered in pony pulling contests most weekends. He also spent his spare time coaching softball for many years and continued to watch his grand children in their sporting events. He was an avid sports fan and would be found watching basketball and football any time it was on television.
He had worked at Town Talk Bakery and Automotive Controls Corporation for 28 years before retiring in 1997.
Mr. Scott is survived by his wife, Joan Scott of Independence, children, Rusty Scott and Dianna of Independence, Nancy Scott and Alan of Lawrence, KS, Twila Augustine and Rodney of Independence. Grandchildren include Scott, Cooper and Morgan Augustine, and many nieces and nephews.
Mr. Scott is preceded in death by his parents Lee and Esther Scott and one sister, Sondra Jones.
