Donald L. Don Jones,86, of Independence passed away Sunday July 8, 2012 at his home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a. m. Friday July 13, 3012 at the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Cherryvale, Kansas with Father Andrew Heiman officiating. Burial will follow with Navy Military Honors in the Calvary Cemetery, Independence, Kansas. The Knights of Columbus will serve as honorary Guard. Visitation hours will be held from 9:00 a. m. to 7:00 p. m. Thursday July 12, 2012 at the Potts Chapel Independence. Reciting of the Rosary will be held at 7:00 p.m. Thursday July 12, 2012 at the Potts Chapel. The family has suggested memorials to the St. Andrews Catholic School and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel, Independence. Don was born January 27, 1926 in Phillips, Oklahoma the son of Arthur Byrd and Edith Josephine Flaim. Don graduated from Colgate High School in 1942 and attended East Central State College for two years. Don served in the United States Navy in the South Pacific Theater from 1944 to 1946 attaining the rank of Yeoman First Class. Don received his Business Administration Degree in 1948 from Hills Business University. On May 30, 1951 Don was united in Marriage to Phyllis Kruizinga in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The couple made their home in Houston Texas from 1957 to 1969 whereupon they moved to Independence. Phyllis preceded him in death. Don worked as a Safety Engineer for Sinclair Oil for 20 years and then Arco Pipe line for 16 years. He was a member of the St. Andrews Catholic Church, Independence. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus 4th Degree was Faithful Navigator of 4th Degree, Grand Knight of 3rd. Degree. He was also a life member of the Independence VFW and NRA and the Independence Gun Club. Survivors include two daughters Suzanne McManus of Coffeyville,Ks., Donna J. Meyer of Andover,Ks., three sons Arthur Jones of Wichita, Ks., Charles B. Jones of Caney, Ks., Richard L. Jones of Perry, Ks., two sisters Gloria Framel of Tulsa, Okla., JoAnn Demo of Tulsa, Okla., 12 Grandchildren and 16 Great Grandchildren. Don was preceded in death December 16, 1970 by his son Phillip E. Jones and March 31, 2012 by his wife Phyllis, and his parents.
