Donald D. Harris, 83, of Independence, Kansas died Wednesday at the Montgomery Place, Independence.
A Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Monday, February 17, 2014 at the Zion Lutheran Church, Independence with the Reverend Ronald Vega officiating. Burial will follow in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Independence under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Independence.
Visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, February 16, 2014, with the family receiving friends from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel in Independence.
The family has suggested memorials to the Zion Lutheran School and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel.
Donald was born February 13, 1930 in Arcadia, Kansas the son of Orville and Alice Low Harris they moved to Walker Missouri where he attended and graduated in 1947 from the Walker School System.
On January 15, 1949 in Arcadia, Kansas Donald was united in marriage to Margina Jacquinot and the couple made their home in Fort Scott, Kansas and then moved to Independence. Margina survives at the home.
Don worked at Montgomery Wards and was the tire shop manager he retired after twenty six years. He then went to work for at that time Automotive Controls he also retired from there after twenty one years.
He was a member of the King of The Road Campers and the local VFW. Don love the outdoors and camping. He was a devoted father and grandfather.
Survivors include two daughters Carol Holt and Donna Harris both of Independence, Ks. two sons Danny Harris and Larry Harris both of Independence, Ks., nine grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren.
