Don King

June 13, 1937 — December 19, 2014

Don King, 77, of rural Tyro, Kansas, passed away Friday, December 19, 2014, at Forrest Manor Nursing Center, Dewey, Oklahoma.

Donald Lee King was born June 13, 1937 near Claremore, Oklahoma, the third of seven children of Rufus Dawson King and Opal Wilcox King.

He grew up in the Talala, Oklahoma area attending schools there and graduating high school in 1956. Don enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1956 and received training as a radio room man broad band and was honorably discharged in 1960.

In 1961, Don married his lifelong partner, Rosie PyleMattix. They had three children, Robert, Steven and Nancy. Steven died in 1964.

Don was employed for over 37 years in telecommunications for Totah Telephone Company, Ochelata, Oklahoma, retiring in 1997.

Don did not have many activities outside of his dedication to his family and his farm. He enjoyed playing with and working on his Ford 8N, 9N, and Jubilee tractors.

Survivors blessed by his memory are his wife, Rosie, of the home, son Robert Mattix and wife Nancy of Tyro, daughter Nancy King and grandson Steven M. King of Tyro, grand daughters Tonya Cruz and family of Independence, KS , grand daughter Taressa Mattix and family of Pennsylvania, and grandson Travis Mattix and family of Tuscon, AZ sister, Lillian McGee, Ottawa, Kansas and brothers Gale King of Bartlesville, OK, and Harold King, St Augustine, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Steven Ray King, and three brothers Bill, Charles, and John.

Celebration of Life services will be held at 1:00pm, Tuesday, December 22, 2014, at Tyro Christian Church with Evangelist David Bycroft officiating. Military rites and burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery, Nowata, Oklahoma, under the direction of Potts Chapel Funeral Home of Caney.

Friends may sign the memorial register Monday, December 21, 2014 from 8:00am to 5:00 pm at the Potts Chapel Funeral Home in Caney. Condolences can also be shared online at www.pottsfuneralhome.com.

In lieu of flowers, the family has suggested memorial donations to the American Cancer Society in memory of Donald L. King. Contributions can be left at the Potts Chapel Funeral Home in Caney.
