Dolores Arlene Schmidt

Dolores Schmidt passed away on Saturday, November 30, 2024, at Georgetown, TX, where she had relocated earlier in the year to be closer to her family.

Services will be held at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church on Saturday, December 14, 2024, at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at the Lutheran Cemetery.

Dolores Arlene (Lessman) Schmidt was born February 17, 1931, in Independence, KS, the daughter of Gehardt and Frieda (Klintworth) Lessman. She was raised in Independence, was a member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church and graduated from Zion Lutheran School in 1945. She continued her education at Independence High School graduating in the spring of 1949.

Upon his return from military service, she married Travis Bolt in 1952. The couple had two children, Carol and Randy. The family made their home in Corpus Christi, Texas.

In 1996, Dolores married her childhood friend, classmate and neighbor Edward Schmidt. They made their home in Eureka Springs, AR and Port O’Connor, TX. He passed away in February of this year.

Dolores was employed over the years by Southwestern Bell (Phoenix), CCISD Food Services (Cafeteria Manager), Parr (Eckerd’s) Pharmacy, and Phillip Randolph Jewelers.

She was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod was active in her churches serving through her Sunday School and Vacation Bible School involvement.

Dolores was preceded in death by her parents; siblings Vernon Lessman, Elvira Lessman (who died in infancy), Marcella Balke, Nadine Lybarger; her husband, Travis Bolt (2001), and husband, Edward Schmidt (2024); and grandchildren: Jarred Newkirk and Daniel Newkirk (who died in infancy).

She is survived by her children: Carol Newkirk, Randy Bolt, Kurt Schmidt, and Katharine Schmidt; her grandchildren Alicia, Nathanael, Aaron, Rachel, and Shelby; her great-grandchildren Cierra, Taylor, and Travis; many nieces, nephews, cousins; and uncountable friends.

The family has suggested memorials to Zion Lutheran Church & School. Remembrances may be left at Potts Chapel or Zion Lutheran Church, 215 S. 10th St, Independence, KS 67301.
