A son, brother, proud dad, grandpa, bull rider, and bull fighter was tragically taken from this world entirely too soon on December 23, 2021 at his home.
Dewayne Lee Smith was born in Wichita on September 28, 1966 to David and Wanda (Beougher) Smith. He attended school in Haysville and graduated from Campus High School. Dewayne found employment with Spirit AeroSystems, he devoted 34 years before his recent retirement this spring. He loved being outdoors; hunting, working in his garden, and countless hours helping his dad on the family farm. Dewayne was the excitement of any gathering, he loved entertaining. He always enjoyed the rodeo life, bull riding and then bull fighting there was just something about that adrenaline rush that made him love the thrill of it all. Once he called Longton his home, he joined the Elk County Rural Fire Department and enjoyed volunteering his time to give others a helping hand when in need. What he enjoyed most though wasn’t the outdoors or even the thrill of the arena, it was his family, especially his grandchildren.
Dewayne’s memories will live on with his mother, Wanda Smith, his children; Chloe Mill and her husband Chris, Dandi Smith and her husband Shawn, and Dalton Smith, grandchildren; Cooper, Colby, Kyleigh, Caden, Macie, and Weston, his sister Debra Atkinson, nephew Gradey Atkinson and his wife Chanel, niece Shelbie Atkinson, and great-nephews; David and Logan.
He now rests with his father, David Smith.
