Dewayne McGaha, age 67, of Elk City, Kansas died Monday, December 13, 2010 at the Abilene Regional Medical Center in Abilene, Texas. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, December 17, 2010 at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas with the Reverend Francis Aeschliman of the Wesleyan Church officiating. Burial will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Elk City, Kansas under the direction of the Potts Chapel. Visitation hours will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, December 16, 2010 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials to the Wesleyan Church or the Blake Bertie Cancer Foundation and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Dewayne was born March 5, 1943 in Phoenix, Arizona to Aubrey and Lyndle Pace McGaha. He grew up in Levelland, Texas and graduated from the Levelland High School in 1961. Dewayne worked in the oil fields in Texas. On January 13, 1964 Dewayne married Sandra Garst and the couple made their home in Texas. In 1970 the couple moved to the Independence, Kansas area. In 1972 Dewayne went to work for Atmos Energy and worked for over 27 years retiring on July 1, 2009. He was a member of the Wesleyan Church in Independence, Kansas. Survivors include his wife Sandra of the home one son Tim McGaha of Independence, Kansas one daughter Zoedy Schnurbusch of Independence, Kansas two granddaughters and one grandson.
