Della Marie Nordberg
Long time Independence resident, Del Nordberg, passed away at Country Place Senior Living, Independence, on December 30, 2021.
She was born in Natoma, KS on February 12, 1935, to Martin and Florence (Hackerott) Kreft, graduated from rural and Natoma schools, and attended Kansas State University, where she met Bernie Nordberg.
Del and Bernie were married in Natoma on June 3, 1956, and made their home in Independence. They celebrated their 50th anniversary shortly before Bernie's death in 2006.
Del was an active member of Zion Lutheran Church, Independence, and many of its organizations. Her community activities included Independence Garden Club, Independence Park Board, Christian Women's Club and the Independence and Coffeyville bowling leagues.
In addition to her husband, Del was preceded in death by her parents and 3 siblings - brothers Garnold and Gerald Kreft and sister Grace Rothenberger, and very special bonus daughter, Susanne Bell, whom she raised from infancy.
Family members left to cherish her memory include one sister, Alice Rutland, Independence, and two daughters, Tammy Barnard, Independence, and Teri Wendt, Osawatomie, and their families.
Known to many as Aunt Del, her legacy of unequaled service to others will live on in the hearts of countless family members and friends who were always welcomed, cared for, and loved.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, Independence, on the anniversary of Del's birth - February 12, 2022, at 11:00am
