Deborah "Debbie" L. (Worl) Coy, age 63, long time resident of Independence, KS, passed away peacefully at Eagle Estates on Saturday morning, November 11, 2017, after a courageous battle with cancer.

Debbie was born October 2, 1954 in Lincoln, NE to Chester and Peggy Worl, the first of three daughters. She is a graduate of Independence High School, class of 1972. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, and worked at First Federal Savings and Loan (now Equity Bank) for over 40 years as Teller, Assistant Vice President, and Personal Banker. She also served as Treasurer for Special Olympics in Kansas, Elder and Deacon at the First Presbyterian Church where she was also a member of the choir. Debbie was City Commissioner for several years, and Mayor of Independence. She was loved by many that met her.

Debbie is survived by her children: daughter Christa (Henton) Dubill, husband David, sons Andrew and Ryan of Overland Park; daughter Kelli (Henton) Bernd, husband Darren, sons Alex and Brooks of Fort Worth, TX; and son Kevin Coy of Independence. She is also survived by her mother, Peggy Worl of Independence, sister Kathy Klanecky (husband David, son Thomas) of Irving, TX, and sister Angela Hance (husband Dennis and daughters Taylor and Madison) of Creston, IA. Debbie was preceded in death by her father.

Visitation will be held at Potts Chapel on Friday, November 17th at 122 S. Penn, book signing beginning at 12:00 p.m., with the family greeting friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 18th at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Independence at 201 S. 5th. The family has requested a private burial at Mount Hope Cemetery.

The family suggests anyone wanting to make contributions in Debbie's honor do so by contributing to the Friends of Riverside Park and Zoo.
