Dean G. Hoyt, 81, of rural Elk City passed away at his home on Saturday, January 26, 2013 following a long illness. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, January 30, 2013 at Potts Chapel in Independence with Reverend Rustin Scott of the First Assembly of God Church, Independence, officiating. Private family burial will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence, Kansas under the direction of the Potts Chapel, Independence. Viewing and book signing will be Tuesday, January 29, 2013, from 1:00 p. m. to 5:00 p. m. at the Potts Chapel, Independence. Dean was born June 17, 1931 in Winfield, Kansas the son of Roy E. and Winnie Wilcoxen Hoyt. He grew up in Winfield and graduated from the Winfield School System. He then attended the Coffeyville Community College and then Pittsburg State University. He served in the United States Army from 1952 until 1954 and was honorably discharged. He was engaged in farming until his retirement. On July 29, 1979 Dean was united in marriage to Ada Pearl Sprague and the couple made their home in the Elk City, Kansas area. Ada survives at the home in rural Elk City, Kansas. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and two halfbrothers. Arrangements are under the care of Potts Chapel of Independence, Kansas.
