David C. Parker, Havana, passed away on Monday, December 31, 2018 surrounded by his beloved family. A private service was conducted by Potts Chapel in Independence. In lei of flowers, memorials are suggested to the Berean Christian Mission and Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice. Memorials may be sent to Potts Chapel, 122 South Penn Ave., Independence, KS 67301.
David C. Parker was born May 24, 1947 in Bartlesville, Oklahoma. He was the son of Henry Burton and Gertrude Marie (Smith) Parker. He grew up in Bartlesville, Oklahoma and moved to California when he was 16. After 2 years, David journeyed his way back to Oklahoma, first to Dewey, then to Copan and finally settling in Havana, Kansas in 1983. David worked as a concrete finisher for 54 years before retiring in 2014. During those years he worked for Strange Construction Company, Berberick Construction Company and Schlegal Construction Company. In 2003, he started his own business.
David married Penny Joann Plucker on February 11, 1984 at the 1st Baptist Church in Caney, Kansas. They made their home in Havana. David loved country living where he enjoyed his miniature horses, coon hunting, riding horses and was an avid former chicken fighter. His dying wish was to have a pet skunk. Penny granted this wish by driving many miles to pick up Miss Daisy LaPhew- the pet skunk.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister: Sandra Beggs, son: David C. Parker Jr. and stepdad: J.T. Harvey.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Penny, sons: Ben (Tracy) Parker of Sedan, KS. and Brent (Michele) Parker of Ray, OH., daughter: Kelly (Ron) Smith of Corona, CA., five grandchildren, 3 step-grandchildren, 3 step-great-grandchildren, brother: Henry W. Parker of Bartlesville, OK., and sister: Pam Callahan.
