David Hindle

Independence

David Frederick Hindle, a longtime resident of Independence, Kansas, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 4, 2022, after a six-year battle with Lou Gehrig’s disease. Dave was born to William and Mary (Whiting) Hindle on September 13, 1947 in Westerly, Rhode Island. Dave grew up with six siblings in Rhode Island and Southeast Kansas, before relocating to San Diego, California as a young adult. There, he married Charlene Nieber and they had a son and daughter, Jason and Jeniese. He later married LeAnn Purdy and they had one daughter, Cherilyn. He welcomed his youngest child, a son Cory in Independence, Kansas.

Dave served in the U.S. Army and served one tour in Vietnam. He was honorably discharged after having received the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal and the Vietnam Campaign Medal. Dave was proud of his service and his fellow veterans.  He worked in Southern California as a master plumber for Floyd & Howerton Plumbing for many years and for Seal-Tite in Independence, Kansas from 1987 until his retirement.

Dave is survived by his four children, Jason (Julie) Hindle of Kuna, Idaho, Jeniese Hindle of San Diego, California, Cherilyn (Brandon) Hearn of Neodesha, Kansas and Cory DeMoss of Poplarville, Mississippi; ten grandchildren, Renae, Matthew, Tyler, Auden, Ryan, Gavin, Carson, Kayden, Chandler and Cannon; his mother Mary Zielinski of Independence, Kansas; brothers Phil (Stephanie) and Don (Janice) Hindle of Independence, Kansas; Bill (JoAnn) Hindle of Denver, Colorado; sisters, Sally (John) Bergsten and Darlene Porter of Bartlesville, Oklahoma and Maryann ( Ron ) Marshall of Coffeyville, Kansas; and his very close nieces Mary (Josh) Christie of Columbia, Missouri and Samantha (Steven) Baker of Southlake, Texas; and many more nieces and nephews.

David was preceded in death by his father William and grandson Sterling. A graveside service with military honors will take place on Friday, September 16, 2022 at 10am at the Neodesha City Cemetery, with a celebration of his life to follow at the Independence American Legion, Post 139.
