Daryl Dean Sanborn

August 26, 1954 — December 5, 2025

Coffeyville

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Daryl Dean Sanborn, a beloved husband, father, brother, papa, and friend. Daryl was born on August 26, 1954, in Coffeyville, Kansas, and he left us peacefully on December 5, 2025, at the age of 71.

Daryl was a dedicated cable lineman, working in the industry for nearly 40 years with Spark Light. Known for his laid-back demeanor and caring spirit, he was easy to befriend and cherished by many who had the pleasure of knowing him. He married the love of his life, Susan, on October 4, 1975, in Independence, and together they built a home filled with laughter and love, raising their two children, Cindee and Corey.

Daryl’s early years were filled with the excitement of bow hunting, and he took great pleasure in pursuing quail, deer, pheasant, duck, and dove. He also carried a deep love for baseball, a talent that didn’t go unnoticed—during his time in Mississippi, a recruiter for the Saint Louis Cardinals scouted him, recognizing his athletic ability. Daryl was an active member of Quails Unlimited and always appreciated any chance to be outdoors. When he wasn’t out in the woods, he enjoyed spending his time on the golf course or bowling with his Monday night league.

A loyal Kansas City Chiefs fan, Daryl cheered on his team through thick and thin, proudly supporting them long before they became the powerhouse they are today. The family can remember Daryl saying, “There’s always next year!”. His love for the game was just one of the many ways he connected with others.

Daryl is preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Esther Sanborn, his son-in-law Lonny Hugo, and his first grandchild, Chet Hugo. He leaves behind a legacy of love, and he will be deeply missed by his brothers Robert (Shirley) Sanborn, Gary (Patty Ann) Sanborn, Tony (Teresa) Sanborn, beloved wife, Susan Sanborn, daughter, Cindee (Lonny) Hugo, his son, Corey (Allen) Sanborn-Potter, his grandchildren Lauren (Jack) Jacoby, Chase (Olivia) Hugo, Tanner (Annie) Sanborn, and Morgan (Jefferey) Simpson, as well as his great-grandchildren, Caelum Sanborn, Everett Sanborn, Mickey Sanborn, Hudson Hugo, Hayes Hugo, due any day Scarlett Simpson and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held December 10, 2025 from 5 to 7pm at Potts Chapel in Independence. A funeral service will be held in Daryl’s honor at the Zion Lutheran Church on December 11, 2025, at 1:00 PM. Family and friends are invited to gather and share memories of Daryl, celebrating the wonderful life he led and the countless lives he touched. Family requests donations be made to the Zion Lutheran Church or to The Michael J. Fox Foundation to help Parkinson's Research. www.michaeljfox.org
