Darrell Gillman

Darrell Dean Gillman, 86, of Coffeyville, Kansas passed away on January 28, 2018 at Windsor Place in Coffeyville, Kansas. Visitation will be held at Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas on Wednesday, January 31st starting at 12:00 pm, with the family greeting friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. A rosary will begin at 5:00 pm. Graveside services will be held Thursday, February 1st at 10:00 am at Calvary Cemetery in Independence, Kansas.
Darrell Dean Gillman was born on September 27, 1931 to George and Lena (Weingart) Gillman in Independence, Kansas. Darrell joined the United States Army in 1953 and was honorably discharged in 1960. During his time in the Army, Darrell served in the Korean War. On October 1, 1955, Darrell married the love of his life, Virginia Howard. Through the years the two welcomed four children. Darrell worked at Morrow Foundry for 30 plus years before retiring. In Darrell's retirement years he enjoyed fishing, gardening, raising cattle and just simply be outside enjoying the outdoors. One of Darrell's favorite hobbies was cruising around the countryside in his truck keeping an eyeful watch on everyone and everything. Darrell will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather who loved spending time with his family and loved ones.
Those left to cherish Darrell's memory include, daughters, Teresa and husband Ken Matney of Coffeyville, KS, Kelly Sloup and Michael Stegman of Hutchinson, KS, Debbie and husband Steve Johnson of Coffeyville, KS, son, Jeff and wife Michelle Gillman of Coffeyville, KS, sisters, Mary Isle of Dearing, KS, Betty Malone of Independence, KS, seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Darrell is preceded in death by his dear wife, Virginia, his parents, five brothers, and two sisters. A special message may be left to the family at www.pottsfuneralhome.com. The family has suggested that any memorial be made out to the Alzheimer's Association, and may be left with Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas.
