Danny was born in Coffeyville, KS on January 14, 1940 to Virgil Paul and Ethel Mabel (Temple) Henisey. On April 16, 1963, he married Sally Miller and they had one daughter, Lauri Ann. They later divorced. He was then a single father to his daughter in the 70’s and 80’s and coached her fast pitch softball team and her senior girls fast pitch traveling teams. He also coached her basketball teams and brought home 1st place trophies; the girls he coached thought he was the best coach ever.
In February, 1985, Danny went on a blind date arranged by his good friends, Fred and Sharon Muller and he and Catherine (Cathey) Stone eventually married on May 20, 1989.
He held various jobs in his life and then settled in at Universal Cement Plant in Independence and retired there in 1994. After retirement and moving to Coffeyville, he started driving a truck for Muller Construction; he had been a part of the Muller family since high school and had supported their family as if they were his own. Fred and Sharon Muller were his best friends and he was Fred’s best man at his wedding while Fred was Danny’s best man at his wedding.
Danny was an outdoorsman all his life; he loved to hunt deer, pheasant and quail. He participated in shooting sports and was a life-time member of the Independence Gun Club. He was also an avid Nascar and football fan. As a teenager, he rode bulls and horses and loved to watch PBR bull riding. Danny was a people person and never knew a stranger. He had a magnetic personality and his smile made everyone a little happier. He could be very ornery but in a good way. He liked to make up silly songs for the grandkids and they were his whole life.
In 1968, he was the Kansas State Champion B Class for skeet shooting. He loved riding his Honda Goldwing and owned the first one in Montgomery County. He and Joe Price did a lot of motorcycle traveling before he and Cathey got married. Danny and Cathey then took a motorcycle trip every year crossing most of the United State and Canada. He was a member of the Goldwing Road Rider’s Association until his 3rd wreck in 2009.
He was on the Board of Directors at Universal Credit Union since 2000, President of the SEK Hillbillies for many years, and a past president of the Coffeyville Shrine Club. During the parades, he shot the gun and scared a few people. He joined the Shrine in 2000 and was a member of the Coffeyville Masonic Lodge No. 102, the Mirza Shrine, and the Provost Guard.
Danny is survived by his wife, Cathey, of the home, daughter Lauri and her husband, John of Independence, KS; sisters Linda Jones and Connie Henisey of Independence, KS, grandkids Nicklas and Kasey Vovk of Redmond, Washington; Bree and Konner Irwin of Ponca City, OK; Ariel and Brian Dolezal of Yukon, OK; Abby Fitchue and Robert Fitchue of Edmond, OK; step granddaughter Rana Zimmerman of Fredonia, KS; and two great grandchildren, John Brian Dolezal IV and Harlie Rae Irwin.
