Dan Roy Leroy Keplinger, age 79, of Cherryvale, Kansas died Thursday, December 10, 2009 at the Mercy Hospital in Independence, Kansas. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, December 14, 2009 at the Potts Chapel in Cherryvale, Kansas with Father Daniel Vacca officiating. Burial will follow at 1:00 p.m., Monday, December 14, 2009 at the Lone Elm Cemetery in Anderson County, Kansas. Visitation hours will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday, December 13, 2009 at the Potts Chapel in Cherryvale, Kansas. Reciting of the Rosary will be held at 6:30 p.m., Sunday, at Potts Chapel in Cherryvale, Kansas. Family will receive friends from 7:00 P.M. TO 8:00 P.M. at the Potts Chapel. Dan Roy Leroy Keplinger was born September 1, 1930 in Ulysses, Kansas to Leonard and Velma Ross Keplinger. He grew up in the Kincaid, Kansas area and graduated from Kincaid High School. In 1950 Roy entered the United States Air Force and served during the Korean War until his honorable discharge in 1954. On July 3, 1954 Roy married Kathleen Ross in Yates Center, Kansas. The couple made their home in Cherryvale, Kansas. Kathleen preceded him in death on July 29, 1993. On February 17, 1995 Roy married Bernice Augustine in Miami, Oklahoma. The couple made their home in Cherryvale, Kansas. Roy worked as a farmer, at the Cherryvale Hatchery and the Independence Reporter. He was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church and a member of the Cherryvale Volunteer Fire Department. Survivors include his wife Bernice of the home; three sons Wayne Keplinger of Independence, Kansas, Dale Keplinger of Muskogee, Oklahoma, Paul Keplinger of St. Peters, Missouri; four daughters Anita Sefers of Winfield, Kansas, Sharon Keplinger of Columbus, Kansas, Debra Bia of Lawrence, Kansas and Diane Hull of Coffeyville, Kansas; two step sons John Augustine of Centennial, Colorado, and Wayne Augustine of Kalispell, Montana; two step daughters Anita Augustine of Bentonville, Arkansas and Susan Howard of San Diego, California; one brother Rolland Keplinger of Sioux City, Iowa; 15 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1st wife, and infant daughter.
