Daleen Steele

Daleen Steele passed away at her home after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease on December 9, 2022.

Daleen was born November 2, 1951 in Independence to Dale and Barbara (O'Brien) Hilyard. She attended schools in Independence, graduating from both Independence High School and Independence Community College.

On May 25, 1974 she married Michael Steele. She spent many years working at Scovel, Emert, Heasty, & Chubb Law before her retirement. In her spare time, Daleen enjoyed traveling, attending concerts, holiday baking, and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. She was a loving, witty, and compassionate person who will be terribly missed by her loved ones.

Daleen is survived by her husband Michael of the home, daughter Megan (Stewart) Snyder of Prairie Village, two grandchildren, William and Jacob Snyder, and brother Kenneth (BJ) Hilyard of Independence.

Visitation will be held Sunday, December 18 at Potts Chapel with the family receiving visitors from 4pm - 6pm. Funeral services will be Monday, December 19, 2022, 1pm  at Potts Chapel in Independence, with Rev. Bill Booe officiating. Burial will follow in the Spring Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to AWOL or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice. Donations may be left with Potts Chapel.
