Cora Marie Sumner was born on December 24, 1932, to Roy and Sophie McCoskey of Severy, Kansas, and went home to rest on August 8, 2025. She was eight of nine children and the last surviving sibling.

Cora was preceded in death by her only grandson Matthew D. Sumner of rural Independence.

She is survived by her two children Mike Sumner (Yvette) of rural Independence, Sherrie O'Neal (Rick) of rural Neodesha, seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren.

She made a career at City Publishing until their closing. Afterward, she worked as a volunteer at Mercy Hospital as a Pink Lady. She also worked part time at Jiffy Mart.

Family came first to Cora, only after her devotion to God. Cora never missed a family event and was a member of the Nazarene Church of Independence, Kansas.

Cora's hobby was her love for walking. You would see her walking all over Independence as part of her daily routine.

She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed.
