Independence

Colene Rae Dillon, a resident of Morningstar Home Care of Neodesha, KS, went to be with the Lord on June 14, 2021, after an extended battle with dementia. Funeral Services will be held, Friday, June 18th, 2021 at 10:00am at Potts Chapel.

She was born February 21, 1933, in Coffeyville, KS to John and Edna Thompson,  the eldest of three siblings.

Colene was a graduate of Field Kindley High School and on April 7, 1951, she was united in marriage to Edwin “Keith” Dillon.  They lived in Coffeyville before moving to Fort Scott, KS then again to Chanute, KS.  In 1973 they relocated to make their final home in Independence, KS

She was a homemaker, involved in PTA, women’s bowling league, and was a member of the  First Baptist Church in Independence.  She was a Mercy Hospital Volunteer and a member of the Cherokee Nation.  Colene enjoyed fishing, collecting antique Daisy BB guns, but her greatest joy was watching her granddaughters participate in their activities.

Colene was preceded in death by her husband of 35 years,  Keith Dillon, her sister Carolyn Selcho, and her parents, John and Edna Thompson.

Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law – Bill and Beverly Dillon of Independence, KS.  Three granddaughters, Hannah (Justin) Wright of Neodesha, KS, Jessica Dillon of West Palm Beach, Florida, and Leslie (Tanner) Woods, two great grandsons Eivan and Odin Woods and one great granddaughter Adalynn Woods of Tonganoxie, KS.  Her brothers Darrell (Rowena) Thompson, and Johnie Thompson of South Coffeyville, OK and brother-in-law Ray Selcho.

In lieu of flowers, would you be so kind as to visit someone in need or contributions can be made to the “Thanks Program, Inc.” van transportation service.

John 21: 18-19  Very truly I tell you, when you were younger you dressed yourself and went where you wanted; but when you are old you will stretch out your hands, and someone else will dress you and lead you where you do not want to go.  Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death by which would Glorify God.  God Bless
