Clyde A. Huff, 89, of Independence passed away at Mercy Hospital Sunday, August 9, 2015.
Cremation has been done under the direction of the Potts Chapel, Independence, and a Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 13, 2015 at the Potts Chapel with Speaker Dan Dollinson officiating.
The family has suggested memorials to the Local VFW Post 1186 and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel.
Clyde was born December 14, 1925 in Independence, Kansas, the son of Clyde V. and Maude M. (Julian) Huff. He grew up in Independence and attended the Morgan Town School System from which he received his GED.
Clyde served in the United States Marine Corp. He served in WWII and the Korean Wars and was honorably discharged.
On December 25, 1946 Clyde was united in marriage to Marie Koronias and they later divorced.
On August 9, 1964 in Independence, Clyde was united in marriage to Anita E. Atkisson and the couple made their home in Independence. Anita preceded Clyde in Death in December of 1998.
Clyde worked for the City of Independence for forty years, which the last sixteen were served as Fire Chief when he retired from the Fire Department.
He was a Life Member of the local VFW Post 1186 and the Independence Country Club.
Clyde was an avid golfer and pool player.
Survivors include one daughter Cheryl Kilgore of Granbury, TX., and six sons Ray Huff of Sedwick, KS., Arthur L. Huff of Independence, KS., Carl Huff of TX., David Lumm and wife Brenda of Independence, KS., Doug Lumm of Owasso, OK., Dwayne Lumm of Independence, Ks., one brother Merrill E. Huff of Enid, OK., twelve grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren.
