Cleota Honey

February 6, 1935 — August 7, 2019

Cleota Madora Honey, formerly of Independence, KS, peacefully went home to be with the Lord and Savior early on August 7, 2019 surrounded by her loving family after a short illness in Springfield, MO.

She was born Cleota Madora Reynolds on February 6, 1935 in Sycamore (LeHunt), KS. and was the youngest and last of 10 children to Clinton and Mabel Reynolds.  She attended LeHunt, Peebler, and Independence schools.  Cleota married Hugh Wright on Sept 25, 1951 and then divorced December 06, 1954.  She then married William G. Honey on November 10, 1963 in Emporia, KS.  From that union, they had one son, Russell.  William passed away on November 16, 1996.  Cleota worked as a waitress in various restaurants throughout her career.  She retired in 2005 as a Dietary Aide in a long-term nursing facility in Emporia.  After retirement, she moved in with her son and his wife in Roeland Park, KS.  Cleota and family moved to Springfield, MO in October 2016 where she lived until her death.

Mom enjoyed quilting, word search puzzles, TV westerns, and spending time with her grandchildren.  She was a great cook and showed her love through cooking.  Her fried chicken and made-from-scratch cinnamon rolls were favorites from my childhood.  Our children say that Nana made the best scrambled eggs.  Mom will be best remembered for her devoted love to family.

Cleota is survived by her son Russell and his wife Jeanie Honey.  Three grandchildren:  Jacob, Matthew, and Evelyn Honey of Springfield, MO. and many nieces and nephews.

Cleota was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, sisters: Cleta Mae, Clarissa, and Cleona, and her brothers: Edwin, George, Joseph, Arthur, Charles Robert, and Walter.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 16th at 10:00AM at Potts Chapel in Independence, KS. Burial will immediately follow at Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence. To leave the family a special message of condolence, please visit www.pottsfuneralhome.com.
