Clay Mason Risner, 92, of Independence, Kansas passed away at his home Monday, November 9, 2020. A private graveside service will take place on Friday and a Celebration of Life service at a later date. Memorials are suggested to the UCM Foundation in memory of Mary Jane (Calton) Risner Scholarship fund or to HopeTank of Independence and can be left with Potts Chapel.
Mr. Risner was born April 14, 1928 in Linn Creek, MO to Theodore Roosevelt and Mary Jane (Calton) Risner. He married Mary “Rusty” Shryock in Baltimore MD on May 8, 1954. She proceeded him in death on September 6, 2006.
Clay retired from the U.S. Marine Corps as a Master Sergeant with 20 years of service on August 31, 1966 at the Marine Corps Schools, Quantico, VA where he was the Administrative Chief. He served in Korea and Vietnam and retired from the Social Security District office in Independence, KS, with 23 years of service on August 31, 1990 where he was a Claims Representative.
Clay loved to read, chainsaw, listen to classical music and was an avid bird watcher.
Survivors include: Daughter Jan Asleson of Independence and five sons: Jon Risner of Independence, Jim Risner of Ashland, Maine, Joel Risner of Raleigh, North Carolina, Jeff Risner of Charlottesville, Virginia, Jay Risner of Manhattan, Kansas, eleven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
