It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Clarence E. Wheatley, who left this world peacefully on December 27, 2025, just one day shy of his 79th birthday. Born on December 28, 1946, in Cherryvale, Kansas, Clarence was a cherished member of his community and a beloved family man, known for his warm spirit and quick wit.
Clarence was a proud laborer. He had a knack for hands-on work—if something needed fixing or tinkering with, Clarence was the go-to guy. But it wasn’t all work and no play for Clarence; his true passions were his family, sports, and a good laugh. A fan of the Kansas City Chiefs and the Royals.
On September 3, 1968, Clarence married the love of his life, Barbara Kay Wheatley, in a little county church in Miami, Oklahoma. Their union was strong, and together they nurtured a loving family that will carry on his legacy. Clarence leaves behind his devoted wife, Barbara, his children Lynn (John) Blome, Travis (Patricia) Wheatley, as well as his grandchildren, who brought him immense joy: Brandon (Samantha) Blome, Christopher (Larissa) Jones, Anthony (fiancé Sarah) Blome, Miranda (Tyler) Hughes, Brittany (Chris) Weiner, and Kimberly Wheatley, Finlee Wheatley, Geovani Wheatley, and Donovin Wheatley. He was also a proud great-grandfather to Rylee, Reighan, Kensley, Wyatt, Ashley, Aria, Connor, Kainsley, Carter, and Temperance. Clarence is also remembered by his brother, Jerry (Becky) Wheatley, his sister, Donna Prettyman, and many nieces and nephews who will miss his humor and heart.
Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Edward Wheatley Sr. and Dorothy Mae Wheatley, and his beloved son, Glen Wheatley.
A visitation will be held on January 8, 2026, from 5 PM to 7 PM at Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas. Family and friends are invited to gather and share their fond memories. A service celebrating his life will take place on January 9, 2026, at 2 PM at Potts Chapel of Independence.
Clarence E. Wheatley will be remembered not just for his talents and interests, but for the joy he brought into the lives of everyone he met. He leaves us with many cherished memories, a twinkle in his eye, and a smile that will always remain in our hearts.
