Clara L. Bredehoft, 97, of Independence, Kansas died Saturday November 23, 2013 at the Mercy Hospital in Independence, Kansas.

A Celebration of Life Services will be held at 1:30, Saturday, November 30, 2013 at the Zion Lutheran Church with the Reverend Roland Vega officiating. Burial will follow in the Lutheran Section of Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence, Kansas under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Independence.

Visitation and family receiving friends will be held at the Zion Lutheran Church Saturday, November 30, 2013 from 11:00 a.m. to Noon. The family has suggested memorials to the Zion Lutheran Church or School and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas, or mailed to Potts Chapel P.O. Box 801 Independence, Kansas 67301.

Clara was born October 31, 1916 in Independence, Kansas the daughter of Frederick J. and Martha Marie Fitz Dittmer. She grew up in Independence attending the Zion Lutheran School through the eighth grade graduating from high school in 1934 from Independence High school. On April 22, 1945 Clara was united in marriage to Reinhold Edward Bredehoft and the couple made their home in Independence. Mr. Bredehoft preceded her in death on August 14, 1980. Clara helped on the family farm west of Independence. She worked at the Badens Department Store until their first child was born. Clara was a loving mother who stayed home and took care of her children. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church since birth. Her involvement in the church included singing in the choir , Junior and Senior Walther League, Ladies Aid and Women of Zion, Quilters and being a Sunday school teacher, She also was secretary of the Verdigris Valley for Retarded Citizens.
Survivors include two sons Marvin E. Bredehoft wife Karyn of Lawrence, Ks., Charles T. Bredehoft of Independence, Ks., one daughter Dorothy R. Bredehoft of Independence, Ks., two grand children Todd C. Bredehoft, wife Angela and great grandchildren Johnathan P. Bredehoft ,Amber R. Bredehoft ,Matthew A. Bredehoft of Grand Prairie,Texas Timothy S. Bredehoft, wife Deborah and great grandson Samuel R . Bredehoft of Lawrence, Kansas. Clara was preceded in death by a brother Walter A. Dittmer and a sister Selma Irma Dittmer, twin boys in infancy, and a girl in infancy.
