CHARLES EDWARD SANCHEZ Charles Edward Sanchez, age 83, of Caney, Kansas died Saturday, August 13, 2011 at his home in Caney, Kansas. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 18, 2011 at the Potts Chapel in Caney, Kansas with the Reverend Lloyd Parrett officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunnyside Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel in Caney, Kansas. Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 17, 2011 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel in Caney, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials to the Church of God Holiness and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Caney, Kansas. Charles was born September 17, 1927 near Waco, Texas to Fred and Maxine Pando Sanchez. Charles had one older sister Juanita and two younger brothers Leo and Gilbert. He grew up in Waco, Texas, Cleveland and Las Vega, New Mexico, before entering the United States Army in 1946. Charles retired from the Army in 1967 at the rank of Staff Sergeant, having served with the 7th Infantry Division Korea, 1st and 4th Armored Tank Divisions, 4th Armored Cavalry Austria, 36th Engineering Combat Division Korea and finally as an Engineering Instructor at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. On September 25, 1957, Charles married Treva Hines. The couple enjoyed their early years of marriage while Charles was in the Army, living in Junction City, Kansas, Sante Fe, New Mexico, Topeka, Kansas, Neuramburg, Germany, New Ohm, Germany, Ft. Belvoir, VA, Tacoma, Washington, Albuquerque, New Mexico, Springfield, Missouri, Woodward, Oklahoma and moving to Caney, Kansas in 1984. Charles is preceded in death by his wife Treva, his parents, his sister, and brother Leo. Survivors include his brother Gilbert of El Paso, Texas, halfbrother Joe Trujillo of Cleveland, New Mexico, three nephews which he helped raise Tom Hines and Floyd Hines both of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Rex Hines of Woodward, Oklahoma and special friend Dorothy Butler of Caney, Kansas. After his military career, Charles worked as a maintenance man, in apartments, Tacoma, Washington as a carpenter in Albequerque, Truck driver in the oil patch in Leedy, Oklahoma truck driver for Kopco for 13 years finally retiring in 1986. Charles was a member of the Church of God Holiness, Dewey, Oklahoma, the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Disabled American Veterans.
