Catherine "Cathe" Dulohery

Catherine (Cathe) Lucille Dulohery (Madden) was born October 10, 1958, in Coffeyville, KS to Joseph and Shirley Jean (Hobbs) Madden. (Stepmother Rea Marie Madden) Catherine has two brothers: Terry Joe Madden and wife Ida Madden of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and George (Randy) Randall Madden of Durant, Oklahoma. A stepbrother; Gene Patton and wife Leora Patton of Arlington, Texas.

February 14, 1978, Cathe married Rocky Allen Metzger. Son; Jason Allen Metzger and daughter; Kimberly Renae (Metzger) Norris are the children born of that marriage. Catherine later divorced Rocky and met the love of her life, Anthony E. Dulohery.

Anthony and Cathe started a life with one another and married on July 1, 1984. Anthony (Tony) took on fatherly duties and helped raise Jason and Kimberly (Kimmie) as his own.

Together Cathe and Tony enjoyed riding the Harley, fishing, camping, hiking, going out to eat, doing projects around the house and just being in each other’s company.

Cathe had a talent for baking and cooking from a young age. She entered a baking contest in 1971 and won first place for the most delicious strawberry glazed pie. Her mother helped her perfect the recipe.

Along with cooking and baking, Cathe had a passion for crappie fishing. Every year once the weather was permissible, you could find her at the local lakes in Independence, Kansas fishing the morning and a lot of the afternoon away.

Cathe made the best fried fish. As a matter of fact, she made the best of everything. There was a lot of her love poured into whatever she was making. Rather it be her famous cherry cheesecake, her fried chicken or meatloaf. It was her love and special attention that made the meal taste phenomenal.

Cathe had a special knack with crochet and sewing needles. She made many original crafts over the years. She was also incredible with making a house feel like a home with her brilliant ideas of paint, perfect home decor and her green thumb out in her many gardens.

She was a fast learner from teaching herself at a young age to drive a stick shift in her 1969 VW bug to self-taught crocheting. Anything she set her mind to, she accomplished.

Cathe’s love language was food and gifts. She was always baking something especially during the colder months and disbursing cookies and other sweets amongst friends and family.

Holidays: especially birthdays and Christmas were always an excuse for Cathe to go extreme with gifts for her family and just making the moments memorable.

Catherine had a love for all of God’s creatures. She was a huge advocate for AWOL and made many contributions over the years. She treated her own fur babies like her children.

Cathe was a one-of-a-kind woman, always on the go. Being forced into “early retirement” by numerous surgeries and never-ending health issues, after years of hard work, Cathe became a stay-at-home wife. She held down the home front with precision.

You could often find her at The Ash Youth Center swimming alongside her grandson, Cedric. She spent a lot of Nannie time with him. They were two peas in a pod.

She was thrilled any time her oldest grandson, Garrett, and soon to be granddaughter in-law, Briana Paolini, came to visit. She had fond memories of spending time with her two granddaughters, Alyssa and Caitlyn, when they were younger.

She had the best sense of humor, was extremely witty and had a comeback for everything. Cathe was overcome with joy every time she spoke with her son on the phone and just having a leisurely comical chat with her boy made her so happy. Her youngest grandson, Liam, and her were on the same level of humor and just got each other.

Cathe and her daughter butted heads like best friends do. But the time they spent together was priceless. The mother daughter bond they had will never perish and it was and forever will be that of the most precious specialty. Cathe always looked out for her daughter in every aspect.

The love she had for her children was that of an unbreakable bond. No matter the road. No matter the situation.

The love and adoration she had for her husband cannot be described with words. It’s a forever love even after death.

She was the strongest woman her family had ever known. Cathe instilled in her children hard work, intelligence, and every possible value there could be to thrive in life.

Her faith in God was unfaltering though being born into a life of many treacherous obstacles and unimaginable chapters that only a child/woman such as herself could survive and yet still be so giving and loving.

The love and faith she had in Christ was undeniably rooted with such a strong foundation, that no matter the instability she faced, she knew she could always plant her feet upon the stability of the promises of God.

From small gifts of food, clothes, monetary contributions, the best advice, always being there for the big and small moments and when someone needed her the most to her selfless donation to Bolton Friend’s church of a playset for the children- Cathe was always dependable. Always the first to show up to help.

Catherine had a bold personality. And was often misunderstood. She herself would admit she was hard to handle. But those who love her the most understood the reasoning behind such a disposition.

She faced so many unseen battles in her lifetime and defeated all of them except one. Grade 4 Glioblastoma.

On April 16, 2022, at 6:05am, Cathe lost her battle to cancer and left this world to go be with her Lord and Savior. She passed away at home, in the loving arms of her husband and her daughter. She fought until the very end with such bravery. Bravery that her husband, daughter, and son had ever seen.

“One day at a time dear” … was the last advice given from her to her daughter.

Catherine will be missed heavily by her family and friends. Infinitely will be loved unbounded, especially by her husband, son, and daughter.

Betty Oakley was Catherine’s beloved Aunt whom she confided in and had a close relationship with.

Visitation at Potts Chapel 122 S. Pennsylvania Independence, KS will be Thursday, April 21, 2022, at 11am until 12:30pm with graveside services following at Mount Hope Cemetery at 1pm.
