Bob Bruce

Bob E. Bruce, Independence, died at his home Saturday, February 14, 2015. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 18, 2015 at 11am at Potts Chapel. Interment will follow at Mount Hope Cemetery. Friends may register on Tuesday, February 17, from 12pm to 8pm with family receiving friends from 6 - 8 at the Chapel. The family has suggested memorials to the Zion Lutheran School and may be left in the care of Potts Chapel.
Bob was born March 22, 1928 in Ottumua, Iowa to Bruce and Doris Edwards. Bob served in the US Navy from 1946 to 1950. After his service Bob lived in the Kansas City area where he was an AAA semi pro baseball pitcher. He was later a doorman at the Mule Brock Hotel until he started his own cab company. In 1977, Bob moved to Independence to be closer to family, he began working for Romans Chevrolet selling vehicles. He later managed Penn Manor Apartments until his retirement. With retirement, Bob along with his wife, opened the Community Clothes Closet where he worked until his health failed.
Bob married Mary Howell in 1954 in Kansas City; to this union the couple had 2 sons, Ron Edwards and Jimmy Edwards, 3 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. In 1996 Bob was united in marriage to Billie Jo Jabben, to this union Bob gained 2 stepsons and 3 grandchildren. Bob is survived by his wife Billie Jo Bruce, sister Joyce Simpson, brother Larry Leyda. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Jim Riddles.
