Blendina Miller

Blendina "Deany" M. Miller passed away on January 4, 2018 at Labette Health in Independence, Kansas. Cremation has taken place under the direction of Potts Chapel. Visitation will be held at Potts Chapel in Independence on Thursday, January 10th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm. Graveside services at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Independence will be on Friday, January 11th at 2:00pm.

Born February 23, 1947 in Independence, Kansas to Elda A.K. (Harms) and Francis A. Mansfield. Due to the fact her father was in construction, the family moved around a lot the first few years of her life. At the age of 4, Deany settled with her parents in Wichita, Kansas. She attended school in Wichita and graduated from North High in Wichita in 1965. Deany then attended The Kansas School of Business, graduating in 1967, majoring in secretary and accounting.

In August of 1967, Deany moved back to Independence and started work with ARCO Pipe Line Company, formerly Sinclair Pipe Line Company. After 25 years of service, she retired, due to the fact ARCO moved to Texas. She went to work for Standard Motor Company, formerly ACC for a little over 10 years. She then worked with physical and mental handicapped agencies, as a care giver. Deany retired from Kansasworks, as a career intake specialist in September of 2010.

She married Richard E. Miller, August 22, 1970 in the Lutheran Church in Claremore, Oklahoma. They first lived in Elk City, Kansas for about 5 years and then moved to Independence. They were married just a few months short of 35 years, when Mr. Miller passed away in 2005.

Deany was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. Her husband and she were members of the church voter's assembly, and while in Elk City, they were members of Pride. Deany was a member of The Women of Zion, and at one time, the chairperson of the calling committee. She was also a member of The Ruby Red Hat's. Her husband and she enjoyed travelling and took many nice vacations together.

Since October 2009, Deany has made her home with her soul mate and loving companion, Hank Modich. They enjoyed going to the 55-Plus dances, water exercises, and attending plays.

Deany is survived by her loving companion, Hank Modich, his 2 sons and grandchildren of Independence, 2 godchildren, Malerie Scammey and Willard Scammey, both of Orlando, FL, and many cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, 2 infant brothers, and aunt Helen Reynolds.

The family would like to give their sincere gratitude and appreciation to the Independence EMS and Fire Department for the devotion and dedication in helping them in their time of need.
