Billy Duncan, 87, of Alva, Oklahoma, passed away Wednesday March 12, 2014, in Caney, KS from complications after a fall. Celebration of Life services will be held at 2:00 pm, Monday, March 17, 2014, at the Potts Chapel in Caney, with Pastor Bill Wealthall officiating. Interment will follow at the Sunnyside Cemetery in Caney.
Billy Dennis Duncan was born January 27, 1927 in Shirley, Arkansas, one of nine children born to William Blant and Lovie May Ward Duncan. He received his education in Arkansas and Nuyaka, Oklahoma.
In his younger years, Billy enjoyed hunting, fishing, and noodling. Billy enlisted in the US Army in early 1945, received training as a infantry rifle marksman, and as an administration clerk. He was honorably discharged in early 1946, shortly after war hostilities had been declared, returning to Oklahoma to help with the family farm.
Billy married the love his life, Virginia Ginger Lee Wealthall on April 28, 1951, at the First Methodist Church in Caney. They have two daughters, Kathy and Janet.
Billy was retired from the Cities Service Gas Company. He began his 33 year Cities Service career in Caney, and was assigned to other locations in Missouri, Texas, and Oklahoma. Billy always enjoyed outdoor activities. Later in life, Billy decided to take up less stressful adventures in Gods great outdoors by taking up golf with the 12 Noon Club golfing group in Alva. He also enjoyed feeding and watching what he called his birds.
Billy D. Duncan is survived by his wife, Ginger, of the home daughters Kathy and husband DeWayne Rose of Caney, and daughter Janet and husband Clint Strawn of Alva three grandchildren Kasey Bowman, Toni Everely, and Ryan Rose seven great grandchildren Shaycee, Andrew, Dakota, Tanner, Mariah, Krymsyn, and Keith.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorials be given to the First Baptist Church, Alva, to the Cross Point Baptist Church in Caney, to Mercy Home Health Care and Hospice, Independence, KS, or to the Baptist Childrens Home. Contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Caney.
