Beverly Whitson-Gaston

August 20, 1937 — October 20, 2016

Beverly Whitson-Gaston went to be with the lord Thursday morning after a short bout of cancer at the age of 79. Mrs Whitson was born in Lincoln Nebraska and was raised in Olathe Kansas on August 20th, 1937, she was the youngest of 5 children. She lived in various places until she met and married Norman E. Whitson who was born and raised in Elk City Kansas on December 21, 1953, she was 16 years old. The couple moved back to Independence when he was discharged from the army after having served in the Korean war, and lived here since. He proceeded her in death February 1996, they were married 43 years. She later married Curtis A. Gaston from Joplin Mo, He also preceded her in death July 2013. They were married for 12 years. Mrs Whitson had 6 children, Mary Jabben, Steve and Nora Whitson, Mike Whitson, and Vickie and Bill Kinnamon, Rick and Erica Whitson all of Independence, David and Sue Whitson of Bloomfield New Mexico. 20 grandchildren and 35 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild.
Beverly returned to school after her children were grown and finished her high school education and gained an associates degree with honors from ICC. She worked several places but retired from the Montgomery county treasurer's office in 2001. She was a member of the Independence Nazarene church.

Beverly was a wonderful person and was truly loved by all. Her entire life was a shining example of how Jesus intended Christian people to live. And that example will live on in her family for generations. She was kind, loving and extremely generous. She will be sorely missed. Please make donations to the family in lieu of flowers or plants, they can be sent to the Whitson family at 516 N 5th, independence KS, 67301. All donations will go to the care of Beverly's oldest daughter Mary who is disabled and has lived with Beverly most of her life. Services will be at the Nazarene church of Independence, Wednesday morning at 10am under the direction of the Potts Chapel.
