Betty Ysusi, 94 of Independence, Kansas went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 19, 2022. The family will greet friends at Potts Chapel on Thursday, March 24th from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Reciting of the Rosary will take place at 6:00 pm. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Andrew’s Catholic Church on Friday, March 25th at 10:00 am, with interment immediately following at Calvary Cemetery in Independence.
Betty was welcomed into this world on November 20, 1927, in the family home in Independence, Kansas to Eleno and Altagracia (Carillo) Ruiz. Betty grew up in a large loving family, having 4 brothers and 9 sisters. As a child, Betty graduated from St. Andrew’s Catholic School and continued her education in the public school system. On August 31, 1946, Betty married Joe Ysusi in Chanute, Kansas. The two made their home in Chanute for a few years but later returned home to begin their family. Through the years, Betty worked at Electra, the Kansas Ammunition Plant and Emerson Electric, where she retired in 1990. Betty was an active member of St. Andrew’s Catholic Church, the Altar Society and Prayer Chain. Betty just adored her family. She looked forward every year for the annual family reunion on the 4th of July, where she spent countless hours cooking her special tamales, enchiladas, and vermicelli. She loved the time she spent with her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Joe Ysusi, grandchildren, Michael and Diana Ysusi, her parents, and 9 sisters, and 4 brothers.
Betty’s memory will carry on with her sons, Fred and wife Kim Ysusi of Independence, Paul and wife Wilda Ysusi of Belleview, Nebraska, and Joe Ysusi Jr. of Independence, daughter, Maria and husband John Rodriguez of Wichita, 10 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and 13 great-great grandchildren.
