Betty Wiley

Betty Jean Wiley, 90, passed away on Sunday January 5, 2020 surrounded by her loving family. A Celebration of Life service will be held Thursday, January 9th at 10:00am at the Church of the Brethren. Visitation will be held 1:00pm-7:00pm, with family greeting friends 5:00pm-7:00pm on Wednesday, January 8th at Potts Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to The Church of the Brethren and can be left at the funeral home.

Betty was born Dec. 4, 1929 to Bud Godsey and Alma (Hawk) Lang in Battle Creek, MI. She attended Elk City school and graduated from Wayside HS in 1947. She later attended ICC Cosmetology school.

On Sept. 7, 1947 she married Jim Wiley and they made their home in the Independence area. He passed in 2004. They had 3 children.

Betty had worked for Montgomery Wards, Sears, helped Jim with his contracting business and was an Instructor at The ICC Cosmetology school for 17 years until her retirement in 1993.

She recently celebrated her 90th birthday with lots of friends and family. She really enjoyed that day! Her highlights were always her grandkids and great grandkids and loved cutting out their pictures and articles out of the newspaper, she also enjoyed her Word Find books.

She was a member of The Church of the Brethren and helped with Women's Fellowship, serving on the board, singing in the choir and was a Sunday School teacher.

The family she left behind are 1 daughter Gloria Price, Randy(Peggy) both of Independence, 1 sister, Faye Whitson of Goodland, KS., 9 grandchildren- Barry(Angi) Price, Sammy Price, Amber (Travis) Gregory, Angie Carr, Lee Wiley all of Independence, Luke (Leigh) Wiley of Baltimore, MD, Taylor (Jane) Wiley of Temple Hills, MD, Tina Tarver of McComb, MS, Sean McKinney of Wichita. She had 9 great grandkids, 6 great great grandkids.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jim, 1 son Stephen, 1 grandchild and 2 brothers.
