Betty Lou Pogue, aged 90, passed peacefully from this world on January 27th, 2016. Betty was preceded into the next life by her husband Joseph Samuel Pogue on January 31st, 1985, her son Daniel Lewis Pogue on August 24th, 2013, and her grandson Joshua Stephen Smith on August 3rd, 1976. She is survived by her daughters - Linda Sue Sturgeon (husband Bill) of Independence Kansas, Virginia Jo Smith (husband John) of St. Augustine Florida, Sara Elizabeth Pogue of Nashville Tennessee - and her grandchildren - Harry Sturgeon, Jennifer Zentz, Jason Smith, Aaron Smith, Danielle Russell, Justin Pogue, Quinton Pogue - and their families including 19 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
Betty was born July 30, 1925 to Henry Lewis and Mable Mae (Barker) Mishler in Arkansas City. Betty is the beloved sister of Helen Fleenor, Dorothy Cole, Ruth Mishler, Carl (wife Wanda) Mishler, Arthur (wife Janice) Mishler, Harry (wife Peggy Mishler) and Dale (wife Evelyn) Mishler - and she was preceded in death by her brothers Harold, Frank and Francis Mishler, and her sisters Margaret Moore, Thelma Richardson and Shirley Barnes. Betty is also the beloved sister-in-law of Eugene Richardson, Mary Ann Wulf, Charlie Pogue and Patrick Pogue. Betty's large and loving family also includes 55 nieces and nephews and their families.
Betty graduated from Cherryvale High School in 1942, and attended Ottawa University where she met and married Joe in 1947. Betty and Joe moved to Texas in 1973, where Betty was a member of the First Baptist Church of San Antonio Texas. She retired from Fleming Foods in 1992 and moved to Independence in 1995 to be nearer her family.
A celebration of Betty's life will be held at the Independence Church of God, 202 South 10th St in Independence Kansas on Monday February 1st at 2pm. Visitation will be at Potts Funeral Home on January 31st from 12pm to 8pm, with family receiving from 6pm to 8pm. Graveside services will be held at Resthaven Gardens of Memory in Wichita Kansas at 2pm on Tuesday February 2nd.
Memorial contributions may be made to American Heart Association, American Cancer Society, or other personal choice of donation.
