Betty June Mayo age 91, of Independence, KS passed away Friday, February 17, 2017 at Coffeyville Regional Medical Center.
Her celebration of life services will be Tuesday, February 21, 2017 at 10:00am at Potts Chapel in Independence, Harold Groth and David May will be speaking. Visitation will be Monday, February 20, 2017 from 12:00pm to 8:00 pm the family will be receiving friends from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at the Chapel.
Betty June Mayo was born December 18, 1925 in Burlington, KS, the daughter of Jacob Chester and Dorothy (Bates) Knoblock. She attend school in Burlington before moving to Independence with her family. She continued her education in Independence, graduating from Independence High School. On June 10, 1945 she was united in marriage to Travis Mayo and the couple later divorced.
Betty was a long time member of the VFW ladies Auxiliary #1186 and was a member of the Church of the Brethren. Betty loved to cook, she loved to sing, listen to music, and she loved to make her family laugh. She delighted in spoiling her grandchildren, but most of all she loved to spend time with her loving family.
Betty June Mayo is survived by one son Donald Mayo and wife Leslie D of Independence, two daughters, Linda S Doub and Shirley A Muller both of Independence, a sister, Mary K Jones of Independence, 10 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, 19 great-great-grandchildren, and 6 honorary great-grandchildren.
Betty June was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Chester Jacob Knoblock, a sister, Dorothy S Goins, and two great-grandchildren, Brooke and Lynn. Memorials in her honor are suggested to the Church of the Brethren's Women's Fellowship and they may be sent in care of Potts Chapel.
