Betty Louise Elliott Marden, 93, of Independence passed away Friday, April 17, 2015 at the Wilson Medical Center, Neodesha, Kansas
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:00 a. m. Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at the Potts Chapel with the Reverend John Wilson of the Presbyterian Church of Independence officiating. Burial will follow in the Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence under the direction of the Potts Chapel of Independence.
The family has suggested memorials to the St. Jude's Children Research Hospital and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Independence.
Betty was born December 14, 1921 in Independence, Kansas the daughter of Ralph Waldo and Blanche (Moore) Elliott. She grew up in Independence attending and graduating from the Independence School System. Later she received her teaching certificate.
Betty Louise Elliott married Charles Leon Marden and made their home in Independence. When Charles entered the United States Army, they moved to Western Kansas until Charles was honorably discharged. They then returned to Independence. Charles preceded Betty in death.
She taught school for many years, in Caney, Independence and other school areas. Even when she was no longer teaching, she was very active in area schools, as well as school and community events.
Survivors include two daughters Linda Marden of Millington, TN. and Beverly Goodie of Navarre, FL., four half brothers all living in California, four grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by two sons, Michael and John Marden, one brother Wendell Elliott and one half brother.
