Betty Herring

Betty Joan Herring, of Independence passed away Wednesday, October 28, 2020. A Celebration of life service will be held Tuesday, November 10th at the Grace United Methodist Church in Independence at 11:00am. Visitation will be before the service, 10:00-11:00am.

Betty Joan Herring was born on December 21, 1938 to Lloyd D. Gastineau and Hattie C. Mitchell in Sedan, Kansas. She was raised in Sedan and went to Sedan High School.

She enjoyed painting and Blue Grass Music. She had been married to David Charles Sharp, Otis Gene Smart, and Lee C. Herring.

Betty is preceded in death by her brothers; Charles, Kenneth, James, Lloyd, Richard, and her sister Dorothy. Also preceded in death by her husband of 34 years Lee C. Herring, and Harry Scott Herring (son), all deceased.

Those left to cherish her memory is her companion Jerry Halderman, son Mike Carlson and daughter Sandy Hughes, grandchildren: Aaron Guy Hughes, Krystal Marie Hughes, Bryan J. Hughes, Justin Herring, Shawn Herring, Trent Herring, Jessica Mersiovsky, and Jennifer Meyer, great-grandchildren: Atraeu Thomas Lee Hughes, Tavian Michael Hughes, Ryker Gastineau, Rylee Gastineau, Ryggs Gastineau, Addison Herring, Jason Herring, Landon Herring, Teagan Herring, Kessia Herring, Kreed Herring, Baze Herring, Chattum Herring, Ritson Meyer, Kason Meyer, Jenson Meyer, Bubba Mersiovsky, Ryleigh Mersiovsky, Callista Berrett, and Zander Berrett.
