Betty L. Garr, age 84, of Tyro, Kansas died Saturday, November 27, 2010 at the Coffeyville Regional Medical Center in Coffeyville, Kansas. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, December 2, 2010 at the Tyro Christian Church with the Evangelist David Bycroft officiating. Burial will follow in the Fawn Creek Cemetery under the direction of the Potts Chapel. Visitation hours will be held from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 1, 2010 with the family receiving friends from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Potts Chapel in Caney, Kansas. The family has suggested memorials to the Tyro Christian Church Nursery and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Caney, Kansas. Betty was born July 3, 1926 in Independence, Kansas to Carl and Flava Blankinship Elliott. She grew up in Independence, Kansas and attended schools in Independence. On October 24, 1944 Betty married Al Garr in Independence, Kansas. The couple made their home in the Independence and Tyro, Kansas area all of their lives. Al preceded her in death in May of 1989. Betty was a homemaker and an active member of the Tyro Christian Church and the Joy Group. She helped serve funeral meals and worked in the Nursery at the Church. Survivors include two sons John Garr and wife Charlene of Independence, Kansas and Terry Garr and wife Macie of Caney, Kansas two daughters Connie Brake and husband Terry and Janie Crowe and husband Joey both of Caney, Kansas one sister Nadine Elliott of Independence, Kansas 13 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
