Betty Eytcheson, Independence, passed away peacefully at her home on Thursday, January 18th, 2024. A visitation will be held, Thursday, January 25th at Potts Chapel, 5:00pm-7:00pm. Her funeral will be on Friday at 11:00 am at the Church of the Epiphany, Episcopal with lunch to follow.
Betty Irene (Morris) Eytcheson was born on February 12, 1932. She was the fourth child of Oliver and Josephine (Dawson) Morris. She graduated from Walnut Kansas High School in 1949. In 1952, she completed her nursing training and went to work for Mercy Hospital Independence. Her passion in life was her faith in God, her family, and nursing.
She married Harold L. Eytcheson in October 1954. They moved to San Bernardino, CA before making their home in rural Independence. Betty worked tirelessly doing the books for Eytcheson ditching and Eytcheson hog farm while raising her family. Betty worked in the nursing field until her retirement from Mercy hospital in 1997.
She is survived by her daughter Helen Cargile Williams and her husband James Williams, son Leonard Eytcheson of Independence. Sister Lorene Butler of Iola KS and brother Ken Morris of Ozark MO. Surviving grandchildren: Shelby Jacob, Lee, Matt, Casey, Kyle, Jennifer, Michael, Crystal, Brian, Brittany, Bailey, Chance, and Cloe. 32 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild.
She is preceded in death by Harold Lee, sons Harold Dean and Brian and one grandson Zachary. Siblings: Edna Peck, Lois Slater, Jim Morris, Donald Morris, Mary Lou Holeman, and Larry Morris.
