Our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother passed away peacefully on the afternoon of February 4, 2015 at the age of 91.
Betty was born to parents Floyd and Mable (Irvin) McClenning in Dennis, Kansas on April 23, 1923. She was a special lady who loved everyone she met and made them feel like family. Years of family Sunday dinners consisting of homemade fried chicken and noodles were made with her patient, loving hands. Meals were followed by energetic and feisty games of Nertz and in later years Dominoes, Yahtzee and the dice game 10,000. She enjoyed going to church and playing bingo. She also enjoyed quilting, sewing, crocheting, and especially fishing with her sons.
Betty loved Jesus and is now home with her Savior. She lived her life with the joy that comes from knowing her Lord and that joy was evident in her loving eyes, her mischievous smile and in the poems and songs that she wrote throughout her amazing life.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents: Floyd and Mable (Irvin) McClenning; her brothers Bill and Charles, and sister Nellie Shanander; her husband Hubert Virn Cain in 1997, and son Hubert Virn Cain, Jr. in 1969. Her treasured dog and constant companion "Gizzy" passed away last month, no doubt to greet Betty at the pearly gates.
Left to cherish her memories are her children: Richard Cain and wife Ione, son Bobby Cain, daughter Linda Osterberger, and son Larry Cain and wife Emma; twenty-five grandchildren: Greg Girard, Chad Adamson, Shannon Cohee, Angela Heape, Joey Gonzales and wife Carie, Becky Rea and husband Richard, Tracy Boorigie and husband Kim, Darren Coble and wife Kristin, Kandace Rather and husband Nathan, Jeff Cain and wife Kris, Michael Osterberger and wife Diana, Diana Proud and husband Daron, Danny Osterberger and wife Jennifer, Ashley Schmitt and TJ Barnhart, Dustin Cain; forty great-grandchildren; ten great- great-grandchildren, and numerous "adopted" children and grand-children.
Betty's family wishes to express their thanks and appreciation to the caregivers at Medicalodges in Independence for their care and compassion, not only for Betty, but also for the many family members who stayed by her side in her final days.
