Bessie Pearl (Duke) Meadows of rural Elk City, Ks passed away peacefully on January 2, 2025, at Montgomery Place Independence, Ks. Born on November 29, 1954, to Royal & Pearl Duke in Independence, Ks. She married the love of her life Harold “Dean” Meadows July 1, 1973. They made their home in rural Chautauqua County; from this union they brought two wonderful children into this world Levi and Carrie. You could often find Bessie reading a good book, working on a word search or just enjoying watching the grandkids play. Bessie had many friends and family that she would often call on the phone and talk for hours. In her early years she delivered for the Good News and babysit for friends and family as well as being a homemaker making sure everyone was taken care of. After the kids went off to college Bessie worked as a dispatcher for the local cab company until her husband retired. Bessie will be greatly missed by her loving husband Dean, her children Levi (Erica) Meadows, Carrie (Meadows) Van Dusen and 5 grandchildren- Johnathan, Gabriel, Hunter, Gage and Ryker. Also surviving James “Jim” (Becky) Duke, Rosemary Hull, Robin Shull, Rodney Duke, Nancy Duke, Robert (Gloria) Meadows and numerous nieces, nephews, family & friends. Bessie is proceeded in death by her parents, siblings Robert “Bob” Duke, Leroy “Andy” Duke, Larry Duke, Charles Duke & John David Duke.

Private graveside services will be at a later date at Hard Rock cemetery, Elk City, KS.
Flowers may be sent to Potts Funeral Chapel in Independence, KS.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made to AWOL Independence, KS. Donations may be left at the church day of services or given to Erica Meadows.
