Beryl Allen Mills was born June 25, 1933, in Sedan, KS, the son of Carl and Piccola (Robinson) Mills. He passed away December 27, 2021 in Parsons, KS. at the age of 88.
Beryl graduated from Independence High School in 1951. Following graduation, Beryl served 4 years in the U.S. Navy.
Beryl received his Associates degree from Independence Community College in 1957. He then graduated from Kansas State College of Pittsburg in 1959 with a degree in Business Administration. He also attended the University of Missouri School of Law at Kansas City in 1959. He is listed in Who’s Who in Kansas.
On November 17, 1956, Beryl married Phyllis Swearingen. To this union were born 4 children, Deborah, Amy, David, and Phillip. As a young couple, Beryl and Phyllis enjoyed camping, fishing, bowling, and square dancing with their friends and families. Grandchildren and Great-grandchildren became their priority later in life. They rarely missed a sporting event or other activity, no matter how far they had to travel.
Beryl worked for Phillips Petroleum Company in Bartlesville, OK, for 4 years before beginning his career as an Accountant at ARCO Pipeline in Independence. He worked for ARCO for 33 years before retiring in 1992. During his time at ARCO, Beryl served on a Task Force for the Alaska Pipeline Service Company in Anchorage and Fairbanks, Alaska. He also lived in Houston, TX temporarily as a Project Accountant.
Beryl was a cattle rancher for over 45 years. He’s a former member of Lions International, served on the board of directors of Pet Producers of America and belongs to the American Legion Post #149. Beryl is a member of the Liberty Methodist Church.
Beryl is survived by his children – Deborah (Troy) Hagerman, Newton, KS, Amy Donley, Tulsa, OK, David (Bobbi) Mills, Independence, KS, and Phillip Mills, Verdigris, OK. Grandchildren – Mitchell Donley, Atlanta, GA, Daniel Donley, Orlando, FL, Nick (Julie) Dailey, Independence, Loni (Toby) Muninger, Olathe, KS. Great-grandchildren – Cohen Dailey, Brady Muninger, and Hailey Muninger. One sister, Judy Vincent, Murray, UT and his companion, Connie Carter of Independence.
Beryl is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, his parents, 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
Funeral services will be held at Potts Chapel on Wednesday, January 5, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 4, 2022 from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.
