Bernice Hollabaugh

Bernice Marie Hollabaugh age 91, of Independence, Kansas passed away Thursday, July 12, 2018 at the Montgomery Place in Independence, Kansas.

Cremation has taken place. Memorial Services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July18, 2018 at the Zion Lutheran Church in Independence, Kansas under the direction of the Potts Chapel. Inurnment will be at a later date at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Independence, Kansas.

The family has suggested memorials to the Zion Lutheran Church and contributions may be left at the Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas.

Bernice Marie Hollabaugh was born December 7, 1926 in Cherryvale, Kansas to Edward and Leona (Schwenker) Wuerdeman. Bernice attended the rural Cunningham School before attending the Zion Lutheran School.

On February 20, 1954 Bernice married James Hollabaugh in Independence, Kansas at the Zion Lutheran Church. The couple made their home for a short time in Independence before moving to Claremore, Oklahoma and later to a farm in Welch, Oklahoma. Bernice worked various jobs. James preceded her in death on January 18, 1988. In 1988 Bernice moved back to Independence, Kansas. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church.

Survivors include one daughter Pamela Hollabaugh of Independence, Kansas; one sister Alene Vogelsang of New Town, North Carolina; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents and nine brothers Arthur, George, Lee, Henry, Virgil, Rev. Robert, Milford, Charles and Edwin.
