Barbara Anna Jabben, age 90, passed away Friday, January 20, 2023, at Eagle Estate in Independence. Barbara was born March 26, 1932 to Amos and Luella Asmussen in Cherryvale, Kansas.
At the young age of three Barbara began music lessons, which she continued until 1950. She attended and graduated from Cherryvale schools.
On April 23, 1950, Barbara married Arnold Jabben and the two made their home in Cherryvale, until 2009 when they moved to Independence.
Throughout her life Barbara continued her love for music being involved with the Cherryvale Crescendo and Independence Monday Music Clubs. She also held various offices within both organizations as Southeast District President and Kansas Federation of Music President.
Barbara had a passion for playing the organ. She acted as a substitute or full-time organist at the Cherryvale Methodist Church, Cherryvale Presbyterian, Independence Zion Lutheran Church, Coffeyville St. Paul Lutheran Church and the Caney Lutheran Church. This passion led her to win organist of the year at the state convention.
Barbara is preceded in death by her Husband, Arnold. Her parents, two brothers, and Son Duane Jabben.
Those left to carry on her memory are her son, Curtis (Kari) Jabben, Daughters Diane (Larry) Gibson, Suzanne Kudrick, Janet (Bill) Collins, Daughter in Law Toni Jabben, 18 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 25th, 2023 with the family receiving visitors from 5-7pm at Potts Chapel.
Funeral Services for Barbara will be held at Zion Lutheran Church, Independence on January 26th, 2023 at 10:30am with burial to follow at Mt. Hope.
Family suggest memorials to Zion Lutheran Church, Independence, Ks. Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, and the Kansas Federated Music Club Scholarship and may be left at the Chapel.
